Hermann Wilhelm von Chappuis (born May 11, 1855 in Landeshut , Province of Silesia , † December 18, 1925 in Berlin ) was a German administrative lawyer in the Kingdom of Prussia.

origin

The Chappuis (noble family) came to Prussia from Switzerland. In 1794 his great-grandfather, Major François Louis von Chappuis (1751-1830), was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility. His grandfather was his son, the Prussian Major General Wilhelm von Chappuis (1793–1869). His parents were the Justizrat Karl Friedrich von Chappuis (1822-1884) and his wife Bertha, née Bail (* 1828).

Life

Chappuis enrolled at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn for law and became active in the Corps Palatia Bonn in 1873 . He switched to the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University and in 1874 also joined the Corps Borussia Breslau .

On October 1, 1876, he joined the 1st Silesian Dragoons Regiment No. 4 of the Prussian Army as a one-year volunteer and, after his release, rose to the reserve position as Rittmeister of the Landwehr cavalry . After the legal traineeship, he was sworn in on October 13, 1876 as a court of appeal trainee . Since June 12, 1882 court assessor, he switched to internal administration. On May 2, 1883, he came from the Upper Presidium of the Province of Silesia to the Schubin district as acting district administrator . It was finally confirmed on December 17, 1883. In 1888 he was transferred to the Bersenbrück district .

After he was still in the Year of Three Emperors Government had become, he came in 1891 as Privy Councilor and lecturer advice in the Prussian Ministry of Ecclesiastical, Educational and Medical Alan occasions . There he became a secret senior government councilor in 1895, ministerial director in 1903 and undersecretary of state in 1911 . In this position, Chappuis received the Iron Cross on a white ribbon as well as the Star for the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and the Crown Order I Class during the First World War . He retired on January 1, 1919.

Since 1911 he was an honorary doctor of the Theological Faculty of the University of Wroclaw.

Hermann von Chappuis died in Berlin in 1925 at the age of 70. He was buried in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Cemetery in Westend , where his son Friedrich Wilhelm (1886–1942) would later find his final resting place. The grave of Hermann von Chappuis has not survived.
