Hermann von Dewitz (General)

Karl Hermann von Dewitz (born August 18, 1813 in Wussow , Naugard district , † June 7, 1866 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Hermann was a son of the Prussian captain , Herr auf Wussow and district administrator of the Naugard district Ludwig von Dewitz (1772–1857) and his wife Eleonore, née von Engel (1773–1841) from the Breesen family .

Military career

Dewitz visited the Berlin Cadet House and was then transferred on August 10, 1831 as a second lieutenant to the 13th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . On August 14, 1834, he was transferred to the 9th Infantry Regiment with a patent from November 20, 1831 . For further training he attended the General War School from October 1834 to June 1837 . In 1840 he was assigned to the training infantry battalion. In 1844 he was appointed regimental adjutant and on November 15, 1845 he was ordered to serve as adjutant of the 4th Landwehr Brigade. In this capacity, Dewitz rose to prime lieutenant in mid-February 1846 . After his participation in the suppression of the Baden Revolution , he was transferred to the 20th Infantry Regiment on December 22, 1849 with the promotion to captain as company commander . On February 28, 1857, Dewitz was transferred to the 8th Infantry Regiment (Leib-Infanterie-Regiment) as a major and commanded the 3rd Combined Reserve Battalion until August 6, 1858. He then received command of the 2nd Battalion and on October 18, 1861, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On February 10, 1863, he was initially assigned to lead the 4th East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 5 in Danzig and on March 17, 1863 he was appointed as a colonel as regimental commander. In this position he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on the occasion of the festival in January 1865 . Class with a bow. Under awarding of the character as a major general Dewitz was on 10 February 1866 Board for disposition made. He died shortly afterwards of consumption .

Dewitz married on November 30, 1846 in Stargard Emma von Arnim (1828-1898). The couple had several children:
