The Hertener Emscherbruch nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the city of Herten in the Recklinghausen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 81 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection under the key number RE-051 in 2008 , extends southwest of the core city of Herten. On the northern edge of the area runs the A 2 and on the eastern edge the state road L 644. On the western edge - a small part is in the nature reserve - the 13-hectare Ewaldsee extends . The L 630 and L 638 run to the west, the Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal flow south . To the southwest - in the area of ​​the two independent Ruhr area cities Gelsenkirchen and Herne - the 31.5 hectare nature reserve Resser Wäldchen extends and to the west the 38 hectare nature reserve Emscherbruch with Ewaldsee extends .
