description

The nature reserve is a wetland created by mountain subsidence, in which several springs arise. It stands out for its species-rich animal and plant communities and also serves as a retreat for flora and fauna.

In the mixed birch forest, sand birch , downy birch , common oak and alder are represented. In the very dense and almost impenetrable shrub layer there are not only willows but also blackberries , gooseberries , elderberries and mountain ash . The ground is covered by reeds and other typical humid forest herbaceous plants, in some places the Canadian goldenrod covers large parts of the area. A mixed maple forest has settled on the small heap in the southeast of the site, and a narrow strip of mixed oak and birch forest adjoins the western flank. The nature reserve is therefore an important habitat for birch and oak forests as well as wet forests in the pine forest-dominated Westmünsterland.

The maintenance of the area takes place through a forest use that preserves the current forest type. In addition, attempts are being made to keep the reed stock open, but this is difficult because of the partial drying out of individual wet areas. Road construction measures should be avoided, no further management will take place.
