The Lippeaue nature reserve (RE-029) is located in the area of ​​the cities of Datteln , Dorsten , Haltern am See , Marl and Waltrop in the Recklinghausen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The largest nature reserve in the district with around 2169.5 ha was placed under nature protection in 1992 under the key number RE-029 . It extends between the core town of Dorsten in the west and the core town of Datteln in the east along the Lippe . The area is crossed by the A 31 in the far west and by the A 43 in the middle . The Wesel-Datteln Canal flows not far to the south .
