Hessen-Darmstadt
Under Hesse-Darmstadt to three consecutive states understand in today's South and Central Hesse:
- the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt in the Holy Roman Empire (1567–1806), created through the division of inheritance ;
- the resulting Grand Duchy of Hesse in the German Confederation and in the German Empire (1806–1918);
- and the people's state of Hesse created by the November Revolution in the Weimar Republic and in the Nazi state (1918–1945).
