Hoholau is an East Timorese Suco in the Aileu administrative office ( Aileu municipality ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Hoholau had an area of ​​16.72 km². Now it is 27.10 km². The Suco Hoholau is located in the west of the Aileu administrative office. To the east is the Suco Liurai and north of the Suco Seloi Craic . In the west, Hoholau borders the municipality of Ermera with its administrative offices Ermera (Suco Lauala ) and Letefoho (Suco Eraulo ). The border with Seloi Craic is largely formed by the Olomasi River. The Manomau rises in the north of Hoholau . Both rivers flow into the western border river, the Gleno . The rivers are part of the Lóis system .

Only smaller roads lead to Hoholau. In the north lie the villages of Mau-Uluria ( Mauloria ), Acolimamate and Ouelae , in the center the place Fisunia and in the south the village Manama . Acolimamate has a makeshift helipad and a primary school, Escola Primaria No. 8 Hoholau .

In the Suco are the five Aldeias Aslimhati , Hatulai , Manubata , Mau-Uluria and Saharai .

Residents

1365 inhabitants (2015) live in the Suco, of which 705 are men and 660 women. The population density is 50.4 inhabitants / km². There are 218 households in the Suco. Over 91% of the population name Mambai as their mother tongue. About 8% speak Tetum Prasa .

history

In 1977, during the war against the Indonesian invaders, the central committee of FRETILIN ordered that the population should resettle from Hoholau to Lequidoe . 500 residents left, only a small number stayed. A FRETILIN member shot some people who refused to relocate. They were attacked by the Indonesian army and three people died. About 300 people died in Lequidoe.

At the beginning of September 1999, members of the AHI militia ( Aku Hidup dengan Integrasi / Indonesia ) systematically destroyed several sucos in Aileu, including Hoholau on September 9, during Operation Donner . Houses were burned down and livestock killed.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Duarte Soares elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. The elections in 2016 won Orlando Maia .
