The Hoisdorf ponds are a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Hoisdorf in the Stormarn district .

The 42  hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 47 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was designated in 1987 (date of regulation: November 20, 1987) and was initially around 30 hectares in size. In 2013 the nature reserve was expanded by 12 hectares to its current size. While parts were of the nature sanctuary , "Hoisdorf," which almost completely surrounds the nature reserve on this. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Stormarn district.

The nature reserve is located southeast of Ahrensburg on the edge of Hoisdorf. It places six artificially created fish ponds with the adjacent bank zones under protection. Only two of the shallow ponds are used extensively for fish farming. The ponds are drained and cleaned regularly, which prevents silting up . The bank areas are partly covered with reeds and reeds . Furthermore, grassland areas between the ponds are included in the nature reserve. When the nature reserve was expanded in 2013, additional grassland areas that bordered the nature reserve in the south and north-east were included.

The nature reserve offers a habitat for numerous birds . Various water birds such as the little grebes , crested grebes and red-necked grebes, as well as mute swans , greylag goose and, irregularly, Canada goose can be found here. Even ducks as Krick- , spoon , herons and Goldeneye are here at home, as well coot and moorhen . The reed areas offer reed bunting and marsh harrier a suitable habitat. The nature reserve is a resting and feeding area for sea eagles and osprey , white stork , goosander , pochard and various limescale . Also cormorants use the ponds as a feeding area. There is a small cormorant colony near the nature reserve. The area is also habitat for bats , such as the water bat , the noctule and Serotine , dragonflies as Azure Damselfly , Lestes sponsa , migrant hawker , Plattbauch , black-tailed skimmer , common darter and Feuerlibelle and amphibians , including moor frog , green frog and Common toad . In the mud flats of the ponds u. a. Egg-shaped rushes, water pepper and needle ledges .

The Hoisdorf ponds are also a local recreation area . There are frequent disruptions by visitors, as well as by guests of the Jugendheim Lichtensee conference center, which borders the nature reserve in the west.

The nature reserve is looked after by the Jordsand Association for the protection of sea birds and nature .
