The Holzbach is a nearly 44 km long river in the Westerwald , which flows into the Wied from the left and southeast near Döttesfeld in the Neuwied district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
From the tributary of the Semmelwiesenbach in Brückrachdorf to its own confluence with the Wied, it is a second-order body of water according to the Rhineland-Palatinate state water law , so that the Neuwied district is responsible for keeping it clean .
course
The Holzbach is the outflow of one of the Westerwald lakes on the so-called Westerwald Lake District, namely the few hundred meters east of Steinen in the Westerwaldkreis at 410 m above sea level. Brinkenweiher , 21 hectares in size, located on the NHN . This has a short tributary from the northeast of less than a kilometer in length. It first drains through a canal into the post pond , this in turn into the house pond , at whose outflow the actual course of the Holzbach begins. It first flows west, passes Hartenfels on the southern edge and then crosses Herschbach .
After passing through the smaller Freirachdorf , he turns south for a few kilometers and passes Marienhausen and Brückrachdorf . From there the Holzbachtalbahn follows its course , it turns permanently to the northeast for a short distance and then passes through the town of Dierdorf . Wienau , Raubach , Hedwigsthal and Puderbach follow the further lower reaches of the bank . Below it, it develops strong meander valleys and passes or crosses the now smaller towns of Reichenstein , Oberehre, Niederehren and Seifen, then passes the again larger Döttesfeld , which is already in the left floodplain of the Wied. There it flows after a run of 44 km and with a catchment area of 176 km² behind it from the left and southeast into the Wied , which runs here in wide loops southwest to the Rhine.
Hydrology
The purified water from the Hartenfels sewage treatment plant, which has existed since 1988, is fed into the Holzbach . Weirs are typical for the headwaters.
