The place is south of Puderbach on the edge of the Rhein-Westerwald nature park . The Holzbach flows through the village .

Community structure

Brechhofen (south of Raubach) and Hedwigsthal (north of Raubach, where the Metsä Tissue paper mill is located) are the districts of the municipality in addition to the main town.

history

In a document assigned around the year 1000, the church in "Rouchbach" , which was equipped with a tenth district , was mentioned for the first time. It was owned by the Koblenz Kastorstift and consecrated to St. Kastor . The income of the parish later belonged to the provost of the monastery . In April 1226, the Archbishop of Trier Theoderich certified that Provost Gerhard donated the income to the chapter of the Castor Foundation to improve the benefice .

In 1532 the monastery sold tithes and patronage rights in Raubach to the Archbishop of Trier . The latter in turn sold it to Count Johann IV von Wied in 1570 , after the latter had introduced the Reformation in his county in 1556.

Personalities

The women's rights activist Ika Freudenberg (1858–1912) and the composer Wilhelm Freudenberg (1838–1928) were born in Raubach . Both were children of the local entrepreneur Johann Philipp Freudenberg (1803–1890), owner of what was then Raubacher Hütte, which is located on the current site of the Metsä plant .

The industrialist Theodor Springmann senior (1840–1927) was also born in Raubach.
