Roßbach is a municipality in the Neuwied district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach . Roßbach is a state-approved climatic health resort .
geography
location
Roßbach is located on the Wied on the edge of the Westerwald in the Middle Wiedtal at the foot of the Roßbacher Häubchen , a former open-cast basalt mine. The Roßbacher Häubchen has belonged to the Breitscheid community for several years , but has kept the Roßbach name. The place is not far from the border with North Rhine-Westphalia . Nearby major cities are Koblenz , Bonn and Cologne .

In addition to the eponymous capital, the districts of Niederbuchenau, Oberbuchenau, Lache, Reifert, Spreitchen, Schimmelshahn and Scheuerchen also belong to the municipality of Roßbach.

history
- Roßbach was first mentioned in 1307 as a courtyard of the Waldbreitbach branch of the Teutonic Order , but it is estimated that it already existed from 1250.
- In the 15th century the Buchenau farm, in the 16th century a farm in Spreitchen and the chapel were mentioned.
- In an inventory ordered by the elector of Cologne in 1660, Roßbach has 22 houses and Reifert three inhabited courtyards.
- In 1742 a mill was mentioned, in 1758 Lache was designated as a courtyard and in 1767 a chapel was first mentioned in Reifert.

The coat of arms in blue (the area symbolizing Wied) has two semicircular curved silver flanks . On the right you can see the black Balkenkreuz of Kurköln , to whose territory the municipality belonged until 1803. The left side is decorated with a rearing black horse . The horse (as steed) together with the Wied (as Bach) form the community name.
Culture and sights

The landmark of the place is the Roßbacher bonnet . It is a worthwhile hiking destination with a nature trail and a separate loop of the Westerwaldsteig leading to the summit . Both paths give interesting insights into the formation and mining of basalt . The state-approved climatic health resort is a starting point for hikes along the Wied or in the side valleys of the Elsbach, Wallbach and Masbach.

The Roßbacher dialect is the "Roßbe Platt", a Moselle-Franconian language variant.
Sports
There is a sports area with a soccer field, illuminated artificial turf, four tennis courts and a shooting range (12 stands for air guns ). There is also another tennis court in the village and a small-caliber stand in Masbachtal. Above the hotel "Strand-Cafe" there is an official paragliding launch site facing south. (Finkenberg)

traffic
The A 3 can be reached in a few minutes with its exits Neustadt (Wied) and Bad Honnef / Linz . From Linz am Rhein Roßbach is well connected to Koblenz, Bonn and Cologne by the B 42 .
The Linz (Rhine) train station on the right-hand side of the Rhine can be reached quickly from Roßbach. In addition, Roßbach is close to the high-speed line Cologne – Rhine / Main , the nearest train station of which is in Siegburg .
