Honsberg is a district (No. 106) of the city of Remscheid in Bergisches Land . It is located in the southwest part of the city. To the south lies the Ehringhausen district , to the north Stachelhausen , west to Kremenholl and to the east of Blumental .

It is bounded in the north by the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen – Solingen railway line , in the east by the Bensenbuschbach , in the south by the Lobach and in the west by the Kremenholler Bach .

history

As a statistical district, Honsberg is administratively part of the Alt-Remscheid district . It was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1513 as Hoensberch. The Engelsberg and Lobach residential areas belong to the Honsberg district. Since the end of the 18th century, Honsberg was considered a residential area for poorer sections of the population. Many workers employed in the Bergische Stahlindustrie and other large companies on the heights of Remscheid lived there with their families in mostly narrow "tenement barracks". One spoke in the vernacular of the "red workers' settlement". Street names like Siemensstrasse, Halskestrasse and Stahlstrasse fit in with this.

Culture and infrastructure

The football club "1. Spielvereinigung 07 Remscheid" was able to look forward to successful table positions in the 1950s and later. The association also operated table tennis and gymnastics. Sports facilities in the south of the district and a sunbath above the Lobach provide a variety of leisure activities. During the Second World War, a high bunker was built in the middle of the residential area , which served as the first makeshift cinema in Remscheid after the end of the war. The Catholic Church of St. Bonifatius was consecrated on Engelsberg, but over time it attracted fewer and fewer visitors and therefore only serves as a cultural venue. The Honsberg community center, the "Neue Lindenhof", is a social center in the district.

A city bus from Stadtwerke Remscheid connects Honsberg with downtown Remscheid.
