Horb am Main (officially: Horb a.Main ) is a district of the Upper Franconian municipality of Marktzeuln in the Lichtenfels district .

geography

The village is about ten kilometers east of Lichtenfels in the Mainaue on a partly still existing oxbow lake of the Main. The federal highway 289 leads through Horb from Zettlitz to Kronach and a community road to Neuses .

history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1284, when Dietrich von Kunstadt handed over four goods to the “Horewe” monastery in Sonnefeld . In 1327 Hans von Redwitz and his wife sold their estate at "Horwe" to the Langheim monastery .

In 1801 belonged to the Weismain office of the bishopric Bamberg the central , territorial, village and community rule , the tithe belonged to the Lord von Künßberg zu Wernstein at the von Aufsessischen seminar in Bamberg. Two properties built with a house and a barn were taxable at the Weismain Office. Three houses, some with a barn, belonged to the Langheim monastery with the feudal lordship , Vogteilichkeit and tax liability.

A Jewish community existed in Horb from the 17th century until around 1870/1880. In 1824, the place had a population of 163 people, 48 Jewish residents. In 1852 there were 28 Jewish residents out of a total of 143 residents. Most of the Jewish families lived from trade. The facilities included a prayer room or a synagogue , a religious school and a ritual bath. In 1864 the half-timbered house with the synagogue on the first floor was sold to the Gampert brewery. The paintings on wooden ribs could be saved and are in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

In 1875 the place had 172 inhabitants and 62 buildings and belonged to the rural community of Zettlitz. The rural community had a total of 338 residents, of whom 184 were Catholics, 135 Protestants and 19 Israelites . The village belonged to the Catholic school and church district from Altenkunstadt, six kilometers away, and to the Protestant school and church district from Obristfeld, 1.5 kilometers away . In 1900 the rural parish comprised an area of ​​248.6 hectares, 257 residents and 47 residential buildings. 128 people lived in Horb in 27 residential buildings. There was one more Jewish resident who died in 1912. The Catholic school was three kilometers away in Redwitz an der Rodach . In 1925, 166 people lived in 31 residential buildings in the village. On December 30, 1925, Horb was parish from the Altenkunstadt parish and joined the Hochstadt am Main parish . In 1950 the village had 230 residents and 34 residential buildings. The Catholic school was in Marktzeuln. In 1970 Horb had 195 inhabitants and in 1987 233 inhabitants as well as 48 residential buildings with 64 apartments.

The incorporation to Marktzeuln took place on July 1, 1977. A volunteer fire brigade has existed since 1904.

economy

A brewery started operations in Horb in 1755. From 1883 it was called Gampert as the company name. Brewing continued until 1999. Opposite the brewery was the Wittelsbach brewery and inn. In 1979, Dechant Bau GmbH built a precast concrete plant in Horb. Since a change of ownership in 2001, the company has been operating as the Obermain precast plant. In 2017 it had around 120 employees.
