Hormozgan , also Hormusgan ( Persian هرمزگان), is one of the 31 provinces of Iran . The capital is Bandar Abbas .
1,578,183 people live in the province (2011 census). The area is 70,697.3 square kilometers, the population density 22 inhabitants per square kilometer.
geography
Hormozgan is located in the south of Iran on the Strait of Hormuz ( pers . : Hormoz ). It is the closest province to the United Arab Emirates .
Geographically, it consists largely of desert mountains and an extremely humid and hot coastal region. Many Iranians prefer the coasts for winter holidays.
The capital of Hormozgan is Bandar Abbas ("Port of Abbas"). Other important cities are Bandar Lengeh, Haji Abbad, Minab , Qeschm, Bandar-e Jask , Bastak, Bandar Khamir, Gavbandi, Roudan and Abumusa.
