reception
By critics , the album was recorded mixed Metascore assigns a rating of 66% based on 20 reviews and the predicate "generally favorable" (dt. "Generally positive" ). This puts Hot Fuss on the level of other albums by the band.
Armin Linder from Plattentests.de particularly praises the musical composition, which he describes as a "bang" . However, the last songs on the album would prevent a better rating as they can't keep up with the beginning. Overall, it awards eight out of ten points.

The Rolling Stone awards 3.5 out of five stars and says that the album consists mainly of good, danceable hits. In 2009, Hot Fuss was voted # 43 on albums of the decade.
MacKenzie Wilson from Allmusic describes The Killers as "one of the few pop bands with talent" , but the band does not manage to keep the momentum throughout the album. The album was given three out of five stars.
Laut.de awards two out of five stars. Critic Michael Schuh attests that the band has good approaches, but many songs seem "old-fashioned or overly poppy" .
