history

The place name Hunger was mentioned from 1316. It is probably derived from the surname Hunger, and could possibly also point to a once less fertile area. In 1356 it was reported that famine belonged to Stierberg . The always rural place came with Betzenstein to the imperial city of Nuremberg in 1504 and belonged to it until the annexation by the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806.

As a result of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , the village became part of the rural community of Stierberg, which also included the villages of Eckenreuth , Hetzendorf , Klausberg and Reipertsgesee as well as the hamlets of Münchs and Waiganz . In the course of the communal territorial reform in Bavaria in the 1970s, Hunger was incorporated into the town of Betzenstein on January 1, 1972, together with the entire Stierberg community. In 1987 Hunger had 13 inhabitants.

traffic

The connection to the public road network is established by a community road leading past the southern outskirts, which, coming from the west of Eckenreuth , continues in an eastward direction to the state road St 2163 . Access to the Federal Motorway 9 is possible at the Plech junction, located about three kilometers east-southeast of the village.
