IC 2457 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SB (bc) in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 386 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2804 , NGC 2806 , NGC 2807 , NGC 2809 .
The object was discovered on April 9, 1896 by Stéphane Javelle .
