IC 2459 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Lynx at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 307 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years across .

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2793 , NGC 2823 , NGC 2840 , IC 2456 .

The type II supernova SN 1998bm was observed here.

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 25, 1903 .
