IC 2444 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 290 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2783 , NGC 2789 , IC 2449 .
The object was discovered on April 8, 1896 by Stéphane Javelle .
