IC 4596 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Scorpio in the southern sky . It is an estimated 338 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light-years across.
The galaxy IC 4600 is located in the same area of the sky .
The type IIn supernova SN 2006dc was observed here.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on July 7, 1899 .
