NGC 6014 = IC 4586 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Snake north of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 109 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years across . In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6017 .
The object was discovered on April 24, 1830 by John Herschel , and independently of that by Lewis Swift in 1897. As a result, the galaxy was also entered in the index catalog as IC 4586 .
