NGC 5993 is a barred spiral (and possibly also a Quasar ) with active galaxies core from the Hubble type SB (r) b in the constellation Bootes . It is an estimated 433 million light years from the Milky Way and has a disk diameter of about 155,000 ly.
The object was discovered on March 18, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, which she labeled “Two. The nf vF, vS, verified with 300 power. The sp discovered with 300 power, eF, S, iF ”. The former galaxy is NGC 5992 .
