NGC 5976 is a 14.8 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble-type "S0" in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 144 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the NGC 5982 group , which also includes NGC 5981 , NGC 5985 , NGC 5987, and NGC 5989 .
The object was discovered on May 6, 1850 by George Stoney , an assistant to William Parsons .
