NGC 5955 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb with an active galaxy core in the constellation Snake north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 443 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 55516 , it forms an optical pair of galaxies. In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5952 and NGC 5960 .

The object was discovered by Albert Marth on May 25, 1865 .
