NGC 5951 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Snake north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 83 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 5953 and NGC 5954 it forms the galaxy trio KTG 62 and together they are members of the NGC 5962 group ( LGG 400 ).
The object was discovered by William Herschel on March 19, 1787 .
