NGC 5957 is a 12.1 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBb with active galactic nucleus in the constellation Serpens north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 84 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter. Together with three other galaxies, it is considered a member of the NGC 5970 group ( LGG 401 ).

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5956 , NGC 5970 , IC 1131 .

The object was discovered on April 29, 1865 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
