NGC 5944 is a 15.0 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Snake . It is one of the three controversial members of the Hickson Compact Group 76 in the numbering of modern astronomy and was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on April 19, 1887 .
