NGC 5998 is either an open star cluster or an asterism made up of a group of stars in the constellation Scorpio . It was discovered on April 30, 1786 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, which read “A cluster of very small stars, pretty rich, 6 arcmin long, 4 arcmin broad; in the form of a parallelogram ”.
