NGC 6017 is a 13.2 mag bright spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Snake at the ecliptic . It is an estimated 83 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6014 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on April 24, 1830 .
