NGC 5989 is a 13.0 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is estimated to be 136 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the NGC 5982 group , which also includes NGC 5976 , NGC 5981 , NGC 5985, and NGC 5987 .
The object was discovered on May 25, 1788 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, vS".
