NGC 5984 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Snake in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 53 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 19, 1784 .
