NGC 5985 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Dragon in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 120 million light years from the Milky Way and about 190,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 5981 and NGC 5982 it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy trio Holm 719 or KTG 64 , the galaxy is the namesake of the NGC 5985 group ( LGG 402 ) and with NGC 5976 , NGC 5981, NGC 5987 and NGC 5989 a member of NGC 5982- group

The object was discovered by William Herschel on May 25, 1788 .
