IC 5218 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 550 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 200,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 7278 , IC 5213 and IC 5220 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on July 16, 1904 .
