The IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia in 2017 was the seventh edition of the by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF carried out competition . The tournament was held from March 7th to 15th, 2017 in the Thai capital Bangkok . The game was played in The Rink Ice Arena of the CentralPlaza Grand Rama IX shopping complex .
As in the previous two years, the strongest Asian nations refrained from participating, so that only teams from the former Division I took part in the competition. This, however, with a record number of seven nations. For the first time since its introduction, the group changed its name no longer under the name Division I .
The title was secured for the first time by New Zealand's selection, which, however, competed against the rest of the women's teams with a U18 selection. The New Zealanders laid the foundation for the tournament victory in the early stages of the tournament, when they beat the eventual third from Singapore 6-2 on the first day of the tournament and the host team from Thailand, which later finished second, just 4-3 on the third day of the tournament .
Attendees
Of the five participants from the previous year , only the defending champion Republic of China (Taiwan) did not participate again.
The United Arab Emirates participated for the first time since 2014 . For their first appearances in the context of the competition New Zealand , which competed for the first time with its U18 selection in an international tournament, and the Philippines .
