The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in 2019 was the twelfth edition of the by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF carried out competition . The tournament was held between March 1st and 9th, 2019 with seven participants. The venue was Kuala Lumpur , the capital of Malaysia . The game was played in the ice rink of the Empire City Mall , which also operates under the name Malaysia National Ice Skating Stadium (MyNISS) , with a capacity of 700 spectators. A total of 3,639 spectators attended the 18 tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 202 per game.
The title was secured for the second time in a row by Mongolia , who beat the Philippines 6-3 in the final . In the preliminary round, the Mongols had lost the direct duel with the same result. The team from Singapore reached third place .
Attendees
Seven national teams took part in the tournament, playing in two performance-based groups of four and three teams. The two groups were composed according to the positions of the national teams at the Challenge Cup 2018 according to the following key:

Last year's participant and runner-up Thailand did not participate for the first time since the introduction of the competition in 2008 and made his debut in qualifying for the World Cup of Division III in 2019 . Similarly, Kuwait , which also took part in the World Cup qualifiers, and India did not register for the tournament. Only Oman returned to the game after a year of absence, which reduced the number of participants from nine to seven teams.

After the group games in the preliminary round, the group first and second in group A qualified directly for the semi-finals. The third and fourth in the same group reached the quarter-finals. In group B, this applies to the group first and second. The teams in the quarterfinals each played a qualifying game for participation in the semi-finals.
