The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in 2012 was the fifth edition of the by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF carried out competition . The tournament was held from March 18 to 25, 2012 in the Indian city of Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand . The game was played in the Dehradun Arena .
The United Arab Emirates won the title for the second time , beating Thailand 3-0 in the final .

In terms of performance, the groups were composed according to their placements in the previous year . The best three teams of 2011 - with the exception of the non-participating previous year's winner Hong Kong - played in Group A. Hong Kong was replaced by the record winner Republic of China (Taiwan). In Group B, the two teams played on ranks 5 and 6 last year. Then there was Malaysia, which took part again for the first time since 2010 .

The tournament was initially held in two groups. In Group A, the four teams with a higher rating played; in group B three more. The two best teams in Group A qualified for the semi-finals, the other teams met first and second in Group B in an additional qualification.
