The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in 2009 was the second edition of the by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF carried out competition . The tournament was held from March 15-20, 2009 in Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates . The game was played in the 1,200-seat Abu Dhabi Ice Rink .
The title of the second edition was secured by the United Arab Emirates, which, as hosts, were able to defeat the Thai selection in the final. The defending champion from the Republic of China did not take part in the competition.

While last year's tournament winner, the Republic of China (Taiwan) , did not participate, the United Arab Emirates and Mongolia, who took part in the world championship several times, took part in the competition for the first time. The tournament received special attention due to the participation of the Indian team in an international competition format for the first time.
mode
A total of eight teams took part, who played in two groups of four teams each for a place in the next round. The two best placed in a group reached the semi-finals after the preliminary round. The teams in ranks 3 and 4 played the final positions for places 5 to 8 in a further round.
For the first time, the team played over the regular playing time of three thirds of 20 minutes.
