The IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia in 2017 was the tenth edition of the by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF carried out competition . A total of nine national teams took part in the two top division and division I tournaments between March 17 and April 25, 2017 .
The title secured for the third time overall and for the first time since 2012 the United Arab Emirates , which on the last day of the tournament in the game against the hitherto same number of points Mongolia with 5: 4 in shootout prevailed. Third place went to hosts Thailand . In Division I the team from Kuwait prevailed.

The record winner, the Republic of China (Taiwan) , for the first time since 2011 and after four tournament victories in a row , did not participate in the top division. Kyrgyzstan canceled its participation at short notice after the promotion to the top division a few days before the start of the tournament due to a lack of financial means, as a result of which only five teams played in the top division.
There were also cancellations of the teams from Qatar , the Philippines and Turkmenistan in Division I , which reduced the field of participants from initially seven to just four teams.

The top division of the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was held from March 17 to 23, 2017 in the Thai capital Bangkok . The game was played in The Rink Ice Arena of the CentralPlaza Grand Rama IX shopping complex . Five national teams took part in the tournament and played the tournament winner in a single round. A total of 1,468 spectators attended the ten tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 146 per game. First of all, Kyrgyzstan should also take part in the tournament as last year's climber. Due to a lack of financial resources, the team canceled their participation at short notice, so that only five teams played in the top division.

Division I of the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia was held from April 22nd to 25th, 2017 in the Kuwaiti capital Kuwait City . The game was played in the national ice rink there . Four national teams took part in the tournament, which played out the tournament winner in a single round. A total of 1,048 spectators attended the six tournament games, which corresponds to an average of 174 per game. Initially, the teams from Qatar , the Philippines and Turkmenistan were also registered for the tournament. However, all three subsequently canceled their participation, which reduced the field of participants from initially seven to just four teams.
The tournament victory in Division I was secured by the team from Kuwait , which used their home advantage and was able to clearly win all three games. Behind them were the teams from India and Oman .
