ISO 3166-2: TL
The list of ISO-3166-2 codes for East Timor contains the codes for the 13 municipalities.
The codes consist of two parts separated by a hyphen. The first part gives the country code according to ISO 3166-1 (for East Timor TL), the second the code for the municipality.
The current country code was last updated in Newsletter II-3 of December 13, 2011 ( PDF ).
The current codes are available on the ISO website under #iso: code: 3166: TL .
When East Timor finally became independent on May 20, 2002, the abbreviation was changed from TP (from Timor Português ) to TL (from Timor-Leste ). This was announced in the third newsletter. Another change was made to the codes in the fourth newsletter to change the official name from East Timor to Timor-Leste . In newsletter II-3 the Tetum designations were added to the code list.
