Ian Hunter (special effects artist)

Ian Hunter (born before 1982) is an American model builder and VFX supervisor who won an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category with Interstellar in 2015 .

Life

He grew up in Los Angeles as the son of an artist. Before he worked in the film industry, he worked as a model maker for an aviation company, where he acquired the knowledge to build models. He has worked for production companies like Boss Film and Stetson Visual Services , where he worked on feature films like Dick Tracy and Batman's Return .

In 1995 he founded the production studio New Deal Studios with Matthew Gratzner and Shannon Blake Gans , which was called Hunter / Gratzner Industries until 2001 . For this company he has been involved in films such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines , The Dark Knight and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides for the past 20 years . In 2015 he received the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects for the film Interstellar together with Paul Franklin , Andrew Lockley and Scott Fisher .

He is a member of the Visual Effects Society and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
