Ian James McCoshen (born August 5, 1995 in Anaheim , California ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League since October 2019 and for their farm team , the Rockford IceHogs , in American Hockey League plays in the position of defender . McCoshen was selected 31st in the second round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers .

Career

Ian McCoshen played in Faribault for Shattuck-St Mary's School. In 58 games he scored 21 goals and 35 assists. As a 15-year-old, he played from 2010 for three seasons for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the United States Hockey League . He was invited to both the USHL / NHL Prospect Game 2012 and 2013. In his final season, he was also recognized for his outstanding style of play when he was elected to the All-Star Team. At the end of the 2010/11 season he was selected in the OHL Priority Selection by the Saginaw Spirit from the Ontario Hockey League in 112th place. During the 2011/12 season, McCoshen joined the United States in the 2011 World Junior A Challenge .

After three seasons in the USHL and the selection in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 by the Florida Panthers in the second round in 31st place, the defender moved to Boston College . There he played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and took part in the 2014 U20 World Junior Championship during the season. He stayed at college for a total of three years before moving to the professional field for the 2016/17 season. He completed the season with Florida's farm team , the Springfield Thunderbirds , in the American Hockey League . At the end of the season he made his NHL debut for the Panthers.

After a little over three years in the Panthers organization, McCoshen was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks in October 2019 . In return, the Finnish attacker Aleksi Saarela moved to Florida.
