Ilya Wladislawowitsch Markow
Ilja Wladislawowitsch Markow ( Russian Илья Владиславович Марков , English transcription Ilya Markov ; born June 19, 1972 in Asbestos , Sverdlovsk Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Russian athlete and Olympic medalist.
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he won the silver medal in the 20 km walk behind the Ecuadorian Jefferson Pérez (gold) and ahead of the Mexican Bernardo Segura (bronze).
Then in 1998 the gold medal at the European Championships followed. At the 1999 World Championships in the Olympic Stadium in Seville , Spain , he won the gold medal ahead of Jefferson Pérez (silver) and the Mexican Daniel García (bronze). Also at the following World Championships in 2001 in the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton , Canada , he was able to convince with a silver medal, behind the Russian Roman Rasskasow (gold) and in front of the also from Russia Viktor Burayev (bronze).
