The East Timorese Ministry of the Interior is the East Timorese government agency responsible for internal security in the country. The minister of the interior of the country is responsible for the management . The Ministry of the Interior is the central government body responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the policies defined and adopted by the Council of Ministers in the areas of internal security, migration and border control, civil protection and the police.

It is the job of the Minister of the Interior to propose, coordinate and implement policies in the area of ​​internal security and civil protection, participate in the definition, coordination and implementation of national security policy, draft regulations for the areas for which he is responsible, the supervision and administration of the security forces and services, the supervision and administration of the civil protection agency, including the fire brigade, the guarantee and maintenance of the public law and order, the maintenance of the freedom and security of people and their property, the guarantee of the safety of movable and immovable national assets, preventing and suppressing crime, control of cross-border movement of people, entry, presence, stay, departure and expulsion of foreign persons from the territory, control of imports, prod uction, trade, licensing, possession and use of weapons, ammunition and explosives, without violating the powers of other government agencies, the regulation, supervision and control of private security forces, the supervision of civil sea and aviation, the prevention of disasters and serious accidents and the protection and support of the affected population in the event of fires, floods, landslides, earthquakes and in all situations in which they are at risk, develop programs for political education in coordination with other competent bodies in order to counter natural or man-made disasters and to consolidate social solidarity, to coordinate and monitor local security councils, to promote the development of strategies for the prevention, mediation and resolution of community conflicts, to maintain relations with other countries and international organizations on domestic security ensure, without violating the powers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the negotiation of international agreements on internal security, criminal investigations, migration, border control and civil protection under the leadership of the President and the Prime Minister , in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinate and monitor cooperation measures with international organizations, states or Security forces and services from other countries, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

By virtue of office, the Minister of the Interior is a member of the Konsellu Superior Defeza no Seguransa (KSDS).
