International Canoe Association
The International Canoe Federation ( International Canoe Federation , ICF ) is the umbrella organization for the world's national associations canoeing. The ICF is a member of the International Olympic Committee , the GAISF and the IWGA and represents the interests of canoeing there.
history
On January 19, 1924, canoe associations from Germany, Denmark, Austria and Sweden founded the International Canoeing Association (IRK) based in Munich with the German Franz Reinicke as president.
In 1946 the International Canoe Federation (ICF) was founded in Stockholm as a successor organization. At that time was the German Canoe Federation, in 1934 as part of the DC circuit in the German Reich Federation for Physical Education was not risen. It was not until 1952 that the German Canoe Association (DKV) , which was re-established in 1949, was incorporated together with the German Canoe Sports Association of the GDR (DKSV).
Member organizations
In 2018 the ICF had 164 national member organizations. The largest of these is the DKV with 121,000 members.

Every two years there is an ICF Congress where elections are held and important decisions are made. Each national association has one vote (regardless of size).
The headquarters have been in Lausanne since 2006 .
As an umbrella organization, it organizes world championships in ten canoeing disciplines . Unlike its national and continental member organizations, the ICF does not care about canoeing and other non-competitive sports.
The President of the ICF has been the Spaniard José Perurena López since 2008 , and the Secretary General of the British Simon Toulson .

The ICF world championships are organized in the following canoe disciplines:

- Canoe slalom
- White water racing
- Canoe polo
- Canoeing
- Canoe marathon
- Dragon boat
- Kayak freestyle
- Stand-up paddling
The following disciplines are also officially run by the ICF:
- Ocean Racing ( surf skiing , sea kayaking , outrigger long distance races)
- Rafting
- Rescue Sports
- Va'a
In the program of the Olympic Games the ICF is responsible for the competitions in canoe racing and canoe slalom, in the program of the World Games for the program sport canoe polo and the invitation sport dragon boat.
World cup
The ICF organizes a world cup in canoeing in several disciplines .
- Canoe racing World Cup ( Canoe Sprint World Cup ) annual four sweeps. The finals are the world championships.
- Canoe Slalom World Cup ( Canoe Slalom World Cup )
- Canoeing whitewater racing World Cup ( Wildwater Canoeing World Cup )
- Canoe Freestyle World Cup ( Canoe Freestyle World Cup )
