Israel Katz ( Hebrew ישראל כץ Jisra'el Katz ; * September 21, 1955 in Ashkelon ) is an Israeli politician. He is a member of the Knesset for the Likud party , Israel's foreign and transport minister and minister for intelligence.

Life

Katz earned a bachelor's and then a master's degree in agricultural science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Katz has since 18 November 1998 Member of the Knesset, where he worked for Ehud Olmert nachrückte . From 2003 to 2006 he held the post of Minister of Agriculture. After the 2009 Knesset election , he became Minister of Transport in Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet , and since the 2015 election he has also been Minister for Intelligence.

Katz supports efforts to normalize Israel's relations with the Gulf States , and in this context supports plans for the construction of a railway line from there via Israel to the Mediterranean.
