The Isuzu Begin is a pickup truck that Isuzu offered on the Japanese home market between 2002 and 2004. The model replaced Isuzu Elf UT , but was now specially designed for parcel services . There were sliding doors on both sides from the vehicle floor to the vehicle roof to ensure quick entry and exit. The model was developed to compete with the Toyota Quick Delivery . The model was presented for the first time at the 35th Tokyo Motor Show and was officially on sale from February 2002. The Isuzu 4JG2 3.0 L diesel engine from the Isuzu Elf with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission was used as the drive . The gearshift lever was integrated as a joystick within easy reach in the dashboard.
As sales of the model were unsatisfactory, production was discontinued in 2004. Nevertheless, the concept Isuzu Begin Funkybox was presented in 2006, which should cover less commercial and more private needs. It should also test interest in North America . Based on the concept of the Begin, Isuzu developed the Isuzu Reach VAN for North America, which has been built together with Utilimaster since 2011.
