The Isuzu Axiom was an SUV that Isuzu manufactured in its SIA plant in Lafayette, Indiana, which it operated together with Subaru , as the successor to the Trooper from 2002 to 2004 . The Rodeo model served as the basis . In the 2005 model year, the Axiom was replaced by the Ascender .

The name Axiom emerged from a competition in Japan. Dr. Hakan Urey from the USA won it in 2001 and received an Axiom award.

The Axiom was also supplied with all-wheel drive and a torque-on-demand system , and since 2004 has also had a direct-injection engine that delivers between 230 and 250 bhp (172–186 kW). The radical styling of the Axiom was felt by some customers to be too extreme; however, an astonishing number of design elements have been adopted from other SUVs. Underneath the angular body of the Axiom was the largely unchanged chassis of the Rodeo, which critics have described as very rough. The elegant body was only available in a luxury version, which additionally limited the market. The Axiom was discontinued in July 2004 after only three years of production and only Subaru vehicles were produced at the Lafayette plant, in particular the Subaru B9 Tribeca . With the Axiom and Rodeo discontinued, Isuzu, which once offered a full range of cars, trucks and SUVs in the United States, no longer offered a single Japanese-made consumer vehicle. In the years 2006–2009, the Isuzu range only consists of American GM vehicles with Isuzu emblems: the i-series is a GMC Canyon and the Ascender corresponds to the GMC Envoy . Isuzu withdrew from North American markets; 2003 from Canada and 2009 from the USA. The Axiom, however, was never offered in Canada.
