The Aska was intended primarily for the Japanese home market, as well as for Southeast Asia and Australia (Holden JJ Camira), but was also sold in Chile as the Chevrolet Aska, for example.

The equipment levels initially included: basic model LT, LT Extra (power steering, wide tires), LS (sports equipment) and LX (tinted windows, central armrests, etc.); In 1985 there was also a sports version called Aska Irmscher . The program initially included 1.8 and 2-liter gasoline engines and a two-liter naturally aspirated diesel. In 1985 all engines became more powerful, and a two-liter turbo diesel supplemented the engine range. All Aska had a five-speed gearbox as standard and some were available with a three-speed automatic or an automated five-speed gearbox (called NAVI5) on request.
