The Isuzu Ascender was an SUV that was manufactured by General Motors in the USA from 2003 . Initially there was only a 7-seater variant that replaced the Isuzu Trooper and was basically a GMC Envoy with the Isuzu branding. In the 2005 model year, a 5-seater was also introduced as the successor to the Rodeo and Axiom models . From this year there was also a V8 with cylinder deactivation . Isuzu once offered a full line of cars, trucks, and SUVs, but the Ascender was the brand's last passenger car to go on sale in the U.S. until the sluggish i-series was introduced. Selling the Ascender in Canada was out of the question as Isuzu had already withdrawn from this market.
The Ascender is the only one of the six midsize SUVs that was not manufactured by a 100% GM brand, as Isuzu was only partially owned by GM until spring 2006. The 7-seater Ascender was no longer available from 2007 and the V8 engine is no longer available. Articles in auto magazines warn buyers of a thin network of dealerships for warranty repairs, and the Kelley Blue Book mentions a relatively low resale value, similar to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer . But Isuzu does offer a 7 year / 75,000 mile powertrain warranty and various other warranties.
The production of the Ascender was stopped by General Motors on June 6, 2008, because Isuzu withdrew completely from the US market.
