Crosswind , HiLander and Panther are three identical models from the Japanese manufacturer Isuzu . In 1990 these were manufactured for the first time on the basis of licenses from Toyota and, after market losses in the home market, developed into an independent model. The second, current generation of models is an independent development by Isuzu.

The MPV was developed in its original form as early as the late 1970s by the Indonesian department of Toyota Motor Corporation as Toyota Kijang . With the third generation of the model, which has been built since 1986, there was also high demand for the model outside of Indonesia. In view of this, it was very easy for Toyota to find companies willing to assemble and market the model as a CKD kit in their countries. The model was also known as Toyota Venture (South Africa) and / or Toyota Zaice (Vietnam). But the MPV for Isuzu also appeared to be very promising for the Japanese market. In 1989, Isuzu Motors Corporation bought the licenses for the production of body and vehicle parts. Isuzu also wanted to manufacture the engines in-house. The first Isuzu Panther rolled off the production line in the fall of 1990 and was offered on the Japanese market. With its compact design, the model was only a success with dealers and suppliers. Despite all this, production was also started in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam as direct competitors to the Toyota model. The South Africa model was imported from Japan. However, production of the model stopped there as early as 1994. A slight lifting gave the HiLander a new chance. With the new design, the Panther has now also become interesting for some private customers. However, as with its predecessor, this model was only able to stay in production until spring 2007 due to falling sales. In the other markets, however, the first model generation of the Crosswind or HiLander remained in production until summer 2007. Toyota also kept its model unchanged in production for several years.

After the market slump of the Panther, the model was revived in a new generation after a general overhaul in spring 2001. Since Toyota did not renew the basic model and also replaced the Venture with the Condor in South Africa, Isuzu was forced to create its own model. After about four years of work on adapting the design to modern vehicle design, the new model was presented. But this time too, the Japanese model, the Panther, was a flop. Crosswind and HiLander, however, were a success and are still in series production today. The Panther is currently only delivered as an import model from Indonesia.

The AUV was offered in Russia between 2002 and 2009 . This was also based on the Panther, but was offered with a much larger body selection. A few years later, the licenses required for production were obtained from General Motors. Since then, the model has also been built and offered as Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Tavera Neo in India and Indonesia.
